R2 PRO-LEVEL PERFORMANCE
Sharing much of the R3’s leading-edge technology and engineering, the all-new R2 combines value and performance to thrilling effect. Boasting a Shimano 105 platform, category-leading stiffness, and our versatile elite fit and stable handling, this is the obvious choice for any road cyclist raring to ride like the pros.
STIFF AND RESPONSIVE
As a pro-calibre climbing weapon, the R2’s fine-tuned stiffness makes the most of every pedal stroke. And with clearance for 28mm tires, you won’t flinch on less-than-perfect pavement while exploring uncharted roads.
BBRIGHT: THIS ASYMMETRICAL 79MM BOTTOM-BRACKET STANDARD YIELDS STIFFER AND LIGHTER FRAMES AND CRANK SYSTEMS.
Cervelo developed BBright to take advantage of the fact that oversized frame tubes are stiffer and lighter. On the right side, frame tubes are already as wide as possible; any wider and they’d hit the chainrings. But on the left side there are no chainrings, so BBright makes use of this extra space by extending the BB shell by 11 millimetres, nearly doubling the width of the left chainstay. At the same time, the drive-side dimensions of the frame are identical to BB30 and provide plenty of clearance for a wide range of cranks, including those with power meters.
FUTURE-PROOF CABLE MANAGEMENT: ENSURES YOUR FRAME IS COMPATIBLE WITH ALL CURRENT AND FUTURE DERAILLEUR AND BRAKE SYSTEMS.
Future-Proof Cable Management achieves compatibility across mechanical, electronic and hydraulic brake and derailleur systems. Future-Proof frames include interchangeable cable stops that snap into place and are easily swapped out by hand to accommodate upgrades. You can buy with confidence, knowing your bike is easily upgradable and can be enjoyed with the latest technology for years to come.
CARBON DROPOUTS: TOUGH, COMPRESSION-MOLDED DROPOUTS SAVE WEIGHT WITH NO SACRIFICE IN STRENGTH COMPARED TO TRADITIONAL METAL DROPOUTS.
Seatstays and chainstays are bonded into hollow dropouts, instead of the other way around. Bonding these precision-moulded surfaces reduces weight, and gives the internal rear derailleur cable a straight shot through the chainstay and dropout, eliminating bends and cable friction.
EVOLVED STEERER DESIGN: THE FORK STEERER’S DIAMETER HAS A NOTICEABLE EFFECT ON A BIKE’S HANDLING. EVOLVED STEERER DESIGN APPLIES THE DIAMETERS AND TAPER DESIGNS THAT BEST SUIT EACH MODEL.
A larger steerer diameter adds torsional stiffness with no weight penalty. A smaller steerer diameter is more compliant and can also be used to reduce headtube frontal area, and in turn, aerodynamic drag. How do we select which size to use? By defining performance goals — weight savings, aerodynamics, stiffness, ride quality and usability — at the start of the frame design process, Cervélo engineers choose the best steerer diameters/tapers to achieve those objectives.
REDUCED-FRICTION BB GUIDE: SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCES CABLE FRICTION IN THE BOTTOM BRACKET, WHICH MEANS SMOOTHER SHIFTING, EASIER SETUP AND LONGER SERVICE INTERVALS.
The Reduced-Friction BB Guide maintains a consistent curve for each cable path by avoiding bends or kinks.
SQUOVAL: THIS LIBRARY OF TUBE SHAPES ALLOWS CERVELO ENGINEERS TO “DIAL IN” THE WEIGHT-SAVING, AERO, STIFFNESS AND COMPLIANCE PROPERTIES THAT BEST SUIT SPECIFIC AREAS OF A FRAME.
Square shapes resist bending the best, while round shapes are tops when it comes to torsion. Since different frame tubes see a variable mix of bending and torsional loads, a careful combination of these shapes can offer the best of both worlds. Enter Squoval, which combines the attributes of a square and an oval to achieve an ideal balance of stiffness, weight and aerodynamics.
PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER
Our engineers went through dozens of frame iterations and conducted hundreds of hours of CFD and wind-tunnel analysis to skillfully balance the fit, handling, stiffness and aero performance of the R2 without adding weight. Underlying all of this are new Squoval Max tube shapes, which have been redesigned to fortify cross-sections and push the R2 to new heights.
ENGINEERING CONFIDENCE
If you’ve ever felt nervous about hammering out of the saddle, get ready to leave that feeling behind. On the R2, pro-level performance and confidence go hand in hand thanks to stable, responsive handling and a versatile elite fit that lets you push, and break, your limits.
RIDE QUALITY
The established Cervélo fit has been enhanced with a new geometry highlighted by a lower standover height and extra toe clearance. Then there’s the R2’s new handling geometry and 28mm tire clearance, which improve stability and performance-boosting comfort.
USABILITY
Road riders at all levels are now embracing the versatility of wider, lower-pressure tires in order to reduce fatigue and, in turn, boost power output. And since wheel manufacturers’ wind-tunnel testing has shown that wider tires can actually deliver aero benefits, tire clearance for the new R2 has been increased to 28mm without sacrificing performance.
STIFFNESS
The R2’s stiffness-to-weight ratio has been meticulously tuned to maximize the efficiency of every pedal stroke and boost confidence in cornering and overall handling. If you’re looking to feel more connected to the road, look no further.
